What E66 means
E66 on Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch dryers such as the EIED55HIW, EIGD55HIW and EWED65HSS means a thermal limiter has opened. The outlet limiter has tripped, and on gas models the inlet limiter can also be involved. Wiring is the other suspect. A tripped limiter is a one-time safety device that responds to a high-temperature event, so the dryer stops heating. It is an older model still in many homes.
Common causes of E66
- Outlet thermal limiter
- Inlet thermal limiter on gas models
- Limiter wiring
- Vent restriction that caused the overheat
1. Clean the lint screen and check the vent hose and outside hood for blockage. 2. Try a short timed cycle. 3. If E66 returns, stop using the dryer. 4. On a gas dryer, if you ever smell gas, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside.
- The limiter is a result of heat, so we find why the dryer overheated before we replace anything.
- We check the limiter and wiring for continuity.
- We say plainly when a repair is not worth it on an older dryer, and we give you a written price first.
Other Dryer codes
Why did the limiter trip?
Usually heat built up, often from a restricted vent. Replacing the limiter without fixing that would let it trip again.
Can the limiter be reset?
It is a single-use part and has to be replaced.
Is a gas dryer different?
Gas models can also have an inlet limiter, so we check both places.
