What E59 means
On front-load Electrolux washers in the Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch line, including the EWFLW65HSS and EIFLW55HMB, E59 means the control is not getting a speed signal from the motor's tachometer for three seconds. In plain words, the board is told to turn the drum but cannot confirm that it is turning. The display shows E59 and the cycle stops. If your washer is one of these older ones, we still service it, and we will say so if the repair costs more than it is worth.
Common causes of E59
- The motor's speed sensor and its wiring
- The connector between the motor and the motor control board
- The motor control board
- A drum that is stuck or too heavily loaded
1. Wait for the door to unlock, then open it and pull out a few items. 2. Look around the drum opening for a sock or small piece of clothing wedged in. 3. Shut the door and run a short drain and spin. 4. Should E59 appear again, leave the washer off and give us a call.
- The code says the speed signal is missing, not which part lost it, so we test the sensor circuit and the wiring.
- We rule out a jammed drum before we suggest electrical work.
- Every repair begins with a written price you have approved, and our workmanship is warranted for 30 days after the visit.
Other Washer codes
What is the tachometer in a washer?
It is a sensor on the motor that reports how fast the drum is turning. The control uses it to hold the right speed, and when the signal disappears for three seconds the washer stops and shows E59.
Can a heavy load trigger E59?
A drum that cannot turn may produce no signal, so we check the load first. If E59 shows on a small load that turns freely by hand, the motor circuit needs proper testing.
Can I just reset the washer?
You can try a fresh short cycle, but if E59 returns the speed signal circuit is the problem and starting over will not repair it. Stop after one try and call us.
