What E71 means
E71 points to the drum water temperature sensor, an NTC thermistor tied to the tub heater, on Electrolux front-loaders in the Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch line such as the EWFLW65HSS and EIFLW55HIW. The control is not getting a believable temperature reading from the water in the drum. The display shows E71 and the washer may stop before or during a heated wash. These older washers remain in many Houston homes, and we are plain with you when a repair is not a good value.
Common causes of E71
- The water temperature sensor in the tub
- The wiring and plug for that sensor
- The tub heating element
- The motor control board that reads the sensor
1. Turn the washer off and open the door when it unlocks. 2. Check for standing water in the drum. 3. Try a small cold wash. 4. If E71 comes up again, skip heated cycles and give us a call.
- The bad reading could start at the sensor, its wiring or the heater, so each one is tested before a part is replaced.
- We compare the sensor against what the water is really doing.
- You approve a written price first, and the finished job is guaranteed for 30 days.
Other Washer codes
What is an NTC sensor?
It is a small temperature sensor whose electrical resistance changes with heat. The washer reads it to know how warm the drum water is, and E71 means that reading is missing or not believable.
Will cold washes still work?
Sometimes, but the code can stop any cycle that needs the sensor. Do not keep forcing the washer if it stops, since repeated tries tell us nothing new.
Does E71 mean the heater is bad?
Not always. The sensor and its wiring come up first, then the heater, then the board. We test in that order so the quote covers only the part truly causing the code.
