What EF2 means
EF2 tells you the washer used too much soap, and it shows on Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch front-load machines such as the EWFLW65HIW and EIFLW55HIW. The suds are higher than the machine wants, so the cycle slows or adds rinsing. You will see EF2 on the display and clothes may come out soapy. Washers of this older design are still common in Houston, and we are honest if a repair is not worth the cost.
Common causes of EF2
- Too much detergent for the load size
- Detergent that is not made for front-load washers
- Residue built up in the drum or dispenser
- Very soft water, which makes suds last longer
1. Use less detergent on the next load, following the amount on the label for a small load. 2. Use detergent made for high-efficiency washers. 3. Run an empty cycle on hot to clear leftover suds. 4. If EF2 appears again with a little soap, call us.
- Most often EF2 is about soap, not about a failed part, so we ask how much you use before we look at anything.
- If it keeps showing with very little detergent, we check the water level sensing.
- If a repair is needed, we put the price in writing first and guarantee our work for 30 days.

How much detergent should I use?
Less than you think. Front-load washers use little water, so extra soap does not rinse out easily. Use the amount recommended for a small or normal load, and choose a detergent made for high-efficiency washers.
Will the washer fix itself?
Sometimes the washer adds rinses until the suds clear on their own. If the suds stay, stop the cycle, let the water drain and run a rinse with no soap added.
When is EF2 a repair issue?
If you use very little soap and EF2 keeps coming back, we check the sensors that read the suds and the water level. Until then, treat it as a message about the amount of detergent.
