What E5D / E5E means

Both E5D and E5E report a communication problem inside Electrolux Wave-Touch and IQ-Touch washers like the EWFLW65HSS and EIFLW55HMB, where the main control board and the motor control board stop exchanging information properly. The display shows E5D or E5E and the cycle stops. Houston still has many of these older front-loaders in daily use. We can repair yours, and we will say so if the cost is not justified.

1. Press the power key to turn the washer off, then give it about a minute. 2. Turn it on again and run one short cycle. 3. Note whether the display shows E5D or E5E, and when in the cycle it appears. 4. If either code returns, do not keep trying. Call us with what you noted.

The manufacturer words them the same way, a communication problem between the main board and the motor control board. On the visit we handle them identically, wiring first and then each board.

Can switching the washer off clear the code?

Sometimes a short power-off lets the boards link up again. When the code comes back, a loose plug or one of the boards is the likely cause, and we test to find out which.
