EFMC517S
Electrolux Perfect Steam EFMC517S Dryer with Instant Refresh Repair
Most common issues on this model
- Instant Refresh that does not steam the clothes
- Dryer that tumbles with no heat
- Long drying times
- Water at the back of the dryer
The EFMC517S is a front load electric dryer in the Perfect Steam line, with an 8.0 cubic foot drum, 8 cycles and Instant Refresh. It is also sold as the EFMC517SIW and the EFMC517STT. Electrolux has discontinued it, which makes it an older dryer that still has many users.
Instant Refresh is a steam-related feature, so when it does not seem to do anything we check the water supply, the hose and the inlet at the back of the dryer. Wet spots back there lead us to the same connection. Heat and drying time are separate questions, and we handle them the usual way: vent, lint, element and safety parts, with the drum and belt checked if there is noise.
The IW and TT endings differ in finish, so we copy the whole number from the label before we order. You hear the price before we begin, and we cover the repair for 30 days.

What is Instant Refresh on this dryer?
It is a named feature of the EFMC517S. We do not change how it works, but when it fails we check the water supply and connection that it depends on.
Why is there water behind my dryer?
The steam water connection is the first suspect: a loose hose, a worn washer or an inlet that leaks. We trace the line and replace what has failed.
What is the difference between IW and TT?
They are finishes of the same dryer, with IW as white and TT another color. Parts like doors and panels follow the finish, so the label decides.
